This term our class has been working on making our own food products. I have buddied up with Jiwon and we are making crushed candy cane chocolates. We made them because I got a chocolate making set for my birthday and I really wanted to use it. We have called them crushed delights. We had to give some out to people in the classroom to try. Geometric shapes

My Awesome geometric shapes

This week in class we have been working on geometric shapes. We got given a circle. We had to make a six sided, eighteen sided or a thirty six sided. ( if we made any more than that it would look like a big blob!!! )
It was really hard  and I did a six sided first and that was easy, then I did a eighteen sided I thought It would be a little bit hard than the first one but it was waaaaayyyyy harder! I still did it and it was fun. Here is a picture of both of them. ( you can probabaly tell wich one is easy and wich one is hard! )

We had to choose an animal and then zentagle it. I chose a orca whale:

 Strawberries

For the past few weeks we have been working on strawberrry things. We are doing this because a girl in my class, well her dad works at a strawberry farm and he invited us to come. So we went and learnt a whole lot of things about strawberries.
Then we had to find a way to show our work and what we'd learnt. So I made this poster in the shape of a strawberry. I got some photos, wrote some facts and drew some pictures. I also did a google slide to incude the things that I forgot to add in my poster. Here is my poster.

Here is a link to my google slide.

"SPEECH MARKS"

'SPEECH MARKS'

This week for writing we have been working on speech marks. We could choose to make a conversation between August and Julian (enemies) from the book 'Wonder', by R.J. Palacio or from Alfie and Mrs Root the dentist from the book 'Demon Dentist' by David Walliams.  I choose Demon dentist and made a conversation between Alfie and Mrs Root the dentist.  Here is mine:

'Come to Mummy!!!' Miss Root, the dentist hissed.
'You can't make me, you can't make me!' taunted Alfie.
'Oh really boy, I think you'll find that I can!' she sneered
‘Well you know what, I think you’ll find you’re wrong!’ laughed Alfie and started running away. ‘I know your secret powers, I know that you and your silly cat are witches! I even know about your toothpaste that burns through stone!!!'
‘WOW!’ Mrs Root said, surprised at alfie’s sudden outburst. ‘Just calm down and come to Mummy like I told you in the first place.’
‘DON’T YOU TRY THAT SOOTHING VOICE WITH ME!!!’ Alfie screamed, getting very irritated.

Starry night

STARRY NIGHT ART

For art for the past few weeks we've been working on a piece of art called Starry night by Vincent van Gogh. First we had to draw everything in white pastel, then we had to get blue and green and dabbed a little bit in blue and a little bit in green. So we painted\dabbed the hills, then we did the same, but without the green with the sky. Next we painted the stars and the wind swirls. We coloured the tree in with pastel, After that we cut out funny house\building shapes and made painted little windows in yellow. Here is mine:

Quick write

ManuelToribio-THE%20FLIGHT[1].jpg

This picture won the Auckland photo competition.
We used this photo for our writing because it can say a lot in just one image.
We had to write about it and what we would be thinking if we were that person.                                                                     Here's what I wrote about it.

the flying Jump

As I start to do a run up of the wharf in Auckland, I think will the water be cold? maybe it will be warm. Probably not!
Suddenly a funny thought comes through my head, should I be doing this? Is it dangerous? As I try to push it out of the way. As I fly through the air, I feel so free and wonderful! I stretch my arms out in front of me and try to imagine what it would be like to fly like this all the time. As I’m just about to plunge into the water, I look up and gaze at the wonderful city that I am so fortunate to live in. Suddenly, SPLASH!!!! I belly flop into the water. It really is cold! (I knew it wouldn't be warm! ) I look at the water around me. It really isn’t the nicest day . The water seems so greenish brown and dark, yuck!
Suddenly, my fun is spoiled by my mum calling out to me. Uh oh!!! She does not sound happy!

I quickly get out of the water and head towards my house. I hesitate. Should I do it again for fun? But then mum would get super angry! I decide not to. Maybe I could do it another time.

THE END!!!

Anzac biscuits

ANZAC BISCUITs

In world war 1 the soldiers ate things like coned beef, jam, stew, and hard dry biscuits. Know one knows how ANZAC biscuits relate to the war. They might be based on Scottish oatcakes bought to New Zealand and Australia by Scottish people who emigrated there, or maybe by soldiers, who were trapped in trenches without enough to eat, came up with the recipe themselves. But it seems most likely that the first anzac bicuits were made by the mothers, wives and girlfriends left behind when the soldiers went to war.  Before being named Anzac biscuits, these biscuits were said to have been called soldier's biscuits. Here is a recipe you might want to use.
              RECIPE
100 grams of butter3 table spoons of golden syrup1\4 of a cup of boiling water11\2 tea spoons of baking soda100 grams of flour150 grams of sugar100 grams of rolled oats75 grams of dessiccated ccoconutPreheat the oven to 180ºC. Gently heat the butter and golden syrup in a small saucepan until the butter melts. Pour the boiling water into a cup and dissolve the soda. Mix the flour, sugar, rolled oats and coconut together in a large bowl. Add the soda and water to the saucepan of hot butter and syrup and immediately pour the foaming mixture into the dry ingredients. Mix thoroughly. Cover two baking trays with baking paper, or wipe with butter and dust with flour. Place heaped teaspoonfuls of the mixture on the prepared trays, leaving room for spreading. Bake at 180ºC for 15-20 minutes until the biscuits have melted flat and baked to a rich brown. Remove from the oven and leave the biscuits to harden for a few minutes before lifting with a spatula. Place in a single layer on a rack to finish cooling. Makes about 3 dozen.
